India's ICBM 'AGNI-V' To Undergo Another Pre-Induction Test This Year

Less than a week after North Korea's unsuccessful satellite launch, India has managed a "flawless" test of an intercontinental ballistic missile.

"With this missile launch, India has emerged as a major missile power", Defense Ministry science advisor V.K. Sarawat told The Hindu newspaper.

The Agni-V was launched from Wheeler Island off India's east coast and hit its target area off the coast of Indonesia about 20 minutes later. All objectives were fully met. "This successful test of Agni-5 reaffirms the country's indigenous missile capabilities and further strengthens our credible deterrence", said India's defense ministry.

"The missile's flight performance was tracked and monitored by radars, range stations and tracking systems all through the mission". The nuclear-capable missile with a range of over 5,000 km now covers all of Asia but most importantly all of China within its nuclear capability.

Inhofe and Lankford vote to reauthorize FISA surveillance program
Numerous Democrats also helped shut down debate on the legislation earlier this week, ensuring it would come a vote. A bill renewing a critical foreign intelligence collection program has cleared the Senate and House .

It was sacked from a small island Thursday morning and will face one more test later this year before becoming fully operational, the Times of India reported. As NBC News reported, just over a year ago Pakistan tested its first submarine-launched cruise missile - a weapon "named after a sixteenth century Islamic Mughal warrior who invaded and conquered India".

The missile was tested in an "open configuration" in April 2012 and September 2013, while it was test-fired from hermetically sealed canisters mounted on transport-cum-tilting launcher trucks in January 2015 and December 2016.

The Agni-5 missile had undergone years of testing and will be inducted into the Strategic Forces Command after more user trial are conducted, a scientist at India's DRDO said.
