Yellow warning in place as snow set to return

MET OFFICE
ALERTS Heavy snow and ice is expected to cause travel chaos tomorrow

Friday's warning centres around the northern and western parts of Yorkshire, as far south as Scarborough and just taking in Harrogate and Rotherham, with the Met Office website warning of icy conditions and possible snow storms throughout most of the day.

In addition, rain may fall onto frozen surfaces for a time, particularly across Scotland, following a very cold night.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "If using public transport, please check with the provider before you leave to see if there is any disruption or cancellation to services".

The warning for snow and ice covers Sunday 21 January from 6am to 6pm.

Officers also urged people to go home early, with the worst conditions expected from 3pm.

Probably some icy patches on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths'.

An amber alert warning of "on and off" spells of "persistent, heavy snow" has been issued in central areas of Scotland, including Glasgow, Sterling and the outskirts of Edinburgh.

How do you hide 13 kids?
Investigators went to the house and freed the children, prompting days of investigations that led to a series of charges Thursday. Although such schools should be subjected to an annual fire marshal inspection, no such inspections ever took place at the home.

The Chief Forecaster says: "Amounts of fresh snow will vary considerably across the warning area".

Drivers may become "stranded", commuters should expect transport delays and rural communities may be "cut off" due to the severe weather, the forecast has warned.

The forecaster predicts that these cold and cloudy conditions will prevail, with snow and sleet falling in Ulster and North Leinstar, as well as some snow in hilly areas.

The Met Office warning for Saturday warns: "Ice is likely to form through Friday night and last into Saturday morning with some sleet and snow showers continuing in places".

The "be prepared" amber warning is in place for wide parts of the country, including Strathclyde, Central, the Lothians, south west Scotland, Tayside and Fife from 07:00 until 22:00.

In areas of the United Kingdom where snow is not expected, it's thought Sunday will be characterised by heavy rain.

"Drive to the road conditions and make sure you check the most up to date information from Traffic Scotland and the Met Office before heading out".
