Spotify launches standalone app 'Stations' for free playlist listening

The ad-supported app is now only available on the Play Store, and is only available to Android users in Australia.

Now, a new "Stations by Spotify" app has appeared. The company noted that users can't create new playlists within Stations. Experiment or not, Stations is the latest tool in Spotify's arsenal as the company continues its rivalry with competing music services.

Stations will offer some personalization as users listen to their favorite programs, according to the app description.

Music streaming service Spotify released a new Android app that's all about free music Tuesday. While the desktop app is much more versatile and lenient in terms of offering great user experience, the mobile version is very limited.

Kim Kardashian slams Lindsay Lohan's 'confusing' accent after actress criticized her cornrows
Anyway, despite her blur-tool skills, some people still weren't happy with the amount of flesh on display in the picture. Body-shamers, mom-shamers, and Lindsay Lohan have criticized Kardashian West's recent social media presence.

The idea behind the app is simple: it can be hard to figure out what you want to listen to sometimes, so the Stations app helps you get around that by providing you with a bunch of different stations personalised to your taste.

This new playlist-based music app seems a lot like Pandora's original streaming service. Spotify says that Stations starts playing as soon as it's opened, and all playlists are displayed in a large font. There are quite a few playlists shown by default which makes it quite redundant for the user to type or search for music; more so when there is also the Discover Weekly and Release Radar features available. You switch between them by scrolling; Spotify specifically calls out that no typing or searching is necessary to use Stations.

Users will not be able to create custom playlists using the app or create their own stations. There is no option to skip through songs but it does keep track of your music listening habits so as to suggest songs that match your mood or taste.
