Shocking | 21 people contract HIV in UP, after quack uses infected needle

Area councillor in Uttar Pradesh's Unnao said if proper tests are done at least 500 cases of HIV would come

LUCKNOW, INDIA-A fake doctor treating poor villagers in northern India for colds, coughs and diarrhea has infected at least 21 of them with HIV by using contaminated syringes and needles, a health official said Tuesday. "During another screening in November, another 13 were reported", Chief Medical Officer Dr SP Chaudhary said.

Officials informed that a medical camp was organised by the state's health department at Bangarmau in Unnao district on February 3 and during Elisa and other confirmatory tests, 40 persons were found to be infected by HIV. According to villagers, his "treatment" was cheaper than the medicine prescribed by government doctors. The case has been reported from Uttar Pradesh's Unnao.

ART consists of a combination of antiretroviral (ARV) drugs to maximally suppress the HIV and stop its progression. Sources said that the matter came to light during a health camp organised by a voluntary organisation at Bangarmau town in the district a few months back. Villagers later accused Yadav of rarely changing his syringe needles.

Still, India has registered a 20% annual decline in new cases over the past few years, according to the report.

Mets get Todd Frazier on two-year deal
Frazier, 31, was traded to the Yankees last season by the White Sox and indicated interest in remaining in NY . For his career, Todd Frazier has a career batting average of.245, with 175 home runs , and 498 runs batted in.

Meanwhile, area councillor said if proper tests are done, at least 500 cases of HIV would come up.

State Health Minister Sidhartha Nath Singh told PTI, "It was because of the health camps that such cases came to our notice". In course of counselling them, it was found that the quack used to treat people with the same needle over and over again and it was believed it is how the infection spread.

Uttar Pradesh Health Minister has assured an investigation in the connection. "An investigation showed that nearly all of them had taken injections from one person", Choudhury said. Which is what likely sparked the small outbreak of HIV. "We have been asked to go to Kanpur on January 16 for next treatment but I do not know how I will arrange the money", she said.
