Virat Kohli colossal again as India smashes South Africa

India on the cusp of history

The defeat for South Africa could have been worse had India not lost regular wickets in the middle overs.

Duminy jolted India once again with the wicket of No.4 Ajinkya Rahane (11), before all-rounder Hardik Pandya (14), Mahendra Singh Dhoni (10) and Kedar Jadhav (1) made their way back in quick succession. In pursuit of 303, South Africa folded for 124, of which opener Lizelle Lee made 73 at a strike-rate of almost 100. He did affect his 400th ODI dismissal behind the stumps but in front of the wickets, Dhoni had a forgettable day. Once Markram was stumped off Kuldeep, South Africa's soft underbelly was exposed.

South Africa had won 17 straight ODI games at home before losing to India by six wickets and then nine wickets in the first two matches.

Continuing his glorious run in the tour, Kohli, who had slammed 112 and 46 not out in the first two ODIs, shouldered the Indian innings single-handedly.

Bumrah, though, had other ideas. Kohli made 43 of those runs from just 25 deliveries in India's last stand. He watched from one end as one after one another, his teammates fell to the Indian pacers.

Not reading the spinners led to South African batsmen being defensive which pushed the run-rate up.

The moment he flicked one towards fine-leg and got a four, he punched the air in celebration.

US House passes stopgap spending bill to avert shutdown
That was a turnaround from Tuesday, when Trump had said he would "love" a shutdown if he did not get his way on immigration. House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi has been holding a fake filibuster of sorts, speaking since just after 10 a.m.

After leading India to third successive triumph in the ongoing South Africa series with a superb century, Kohli was lauded on social media by the cricket fraternity. The openers began decently but soon enough, Bumrah struck against Amla, who was fast turning into his "bunny".

Today resulted in yet another resounding ODI win for India against an out-of-sorts South Africa.

Smriti, who struck a 98-ball 84 in the opening match, took her time and smartly got to the three-figure mark off 116 balls, before taking the attack to the opposition, resulting in a 134-run third wicket stand with Harmanpreet.

Yuzvendra Chahal was called in as second change in a bid to pick wickets ahead of Powerplay 2. In this passage of play, Kohli brought up his hundred off 119 balls, including seven fours. The likes of Mitchell Johnson, Trent Boult, Mitchell Starc, Zaheer Khan and even Mohammad Irfan have troubled Amla throughout his career. Both are very courageous in terms of how they bowl and the kind of fields they want as well.

Kohli promised to up the ante in the remaining three games. Of all bowlers to have dismissed him more than four times acrosss formats, only Harbhajan Singh has a better average (a marginal 0.75 difference).

It takes even more experience out of the side but given the form the lanky quick has shown, Ngidi deserves a chance anyway. This swap yet again works well on paper as Miller isn't a pretty good player against spin.

Markram was due to open the batting, as he does in Test matches and domestic one-day games, following a wrist injury which ruled Quinton de Kock out of the rest of the series, as well as three Twenty20 internationals which follow the one-day matches.
