Norway's Olympic chef accidentally orders 15000 eggs

Crates of eggs

Norway's communications manager Niels Roine said the team's chefs believed they had ordered 1,500 eggs from a Korean delivery service in preparation for the Pyeongchang Olympics, but instead were greeted with a huge shipment of 15,000 eggs.

However, the team had used Google Translate to place the order with the South Korean supplier, who was apparently led to believe the team needed ten times more eggs that they actually wanted. And Chef Ståle Johansen still promises all kinds of egg-based treats for his athletes, including, as he told Norwegian newspaper Aftenposten, "sugar bread made for medal winners".

OL-leiren bestilte 1500 egg gjennom å oversette via Google Translate.

Despite the, ahem, eggs-travagant order, Norway's chef-de-mission Tore Ovrebo described the incident as "not a big issue" and was not looking to lay blame at anyone's feet.

Laying off asparagus may help beat cancer
An amino acid found in a variety of foods including asparagus has been linked to the spread of breast cancer . Foods low in asparagine include most fruits and vegetables.

"They will probably use them I guess and I don't know, maybe the people that supplied us with them will take them back I don't know".

Tore Ovrebo, head of the Norwegian team, blamed a typo for the error, and said he was anxious about what would happen to all the excess eggs.

The Norwegian athletes will all attend the 2018 Winter Olympics opening ceremony at the Pyeongchang Olympic Stadium in South Korea on Friday.

Luckily, the team was able to return the 13,500 surplus eggs. "In the meantime we are hoping for 30 medals", Mr Ovrebo said.
