Facebook Reportedly Testing "Downvote" Feature For Some Users

Facebook testing 'downvote' button on users' comments

Facebook's "like" button allows users to express their approval for the messages, photos and other content their friends posted.

"We are not testing a dislike button", Facebook said. "This is running for a small set of people in the United States only".

When a downvote button is tapped, it hides a comment and few reporting options appear allowing users to click "Offensive", "Misleading" or "Off Topic".

The feature is reportedly designed as such so that Facebook receives feedback, instead of the commenter. Facebook already has a "Hide" button for comments, but it's usually hidden behind the drop-down arrow on comments rather than immediately clickable. The screenshots come from Christina Hudler.

There's no "thumbs down" and the number of "downvotes" a comment receives won't be shared, either with the commenter or publicly.

Facebook has confirmed that it is conducting a brief test of the comment moderation feature on a small set of English-speaking Android users.

Downvoting is, of course, usually associated with Reddit.

Free 2-hour Whole Foods delivery arrives in Austin
Whole Foods' private-label brand, Everyday Value 365, is already available on Prime Now delivery in some markets, including NY . Good, though, said she thinks Whole Foods has high-enough quality produce that she's not anxious about choosing items herself.

The new feature is being tested for a small number of users in the United States, alongside a number of other measures aimed at improving Facebook's community, in particular public pages which share content with followers.

A dislike button has always been the most requested Facebook feature, but Facebook has never given in.

Nevertheless, it seems that Facebook and its leader Mark Zuckerberg's mission to coalesce and cultivate positive communities and human relationships includes a less vitriolic social media platform.

What do you think of this Downvote button on Facebook? "38% of Facebook users favour a dislike button compared to 30% who are happy with the new emojis", YouGov Omnibus added.

The new button was first noticed by Taylor Lorenz of The Daily Beast. Instead, the reactions are all meant to show sympathy with a post or comment.

Facebook, however, has been very keen to stress that this isn't going to be a "dislike" feature.
