New iOS 11.3 Feature Slow Down Your Processors - Turn It Off!

What you'll see if your battery is worn

In response to the controversy surrounding Apple admitting that it slows down the processor speed of older iPhones when their batteries degrade to the point that they're no longer able to deliver peak performance, the company has added the ability for users to toggle throttling on and off.

The feature says that on a device with a battery that needs to be replaced, power management can be toggled off.

The revelation opened Apple up to consumer complaints of planned and accelerated obsolescence. The company apologised and lowered the price of battery replacements for affected models from $79 to $29 (Rs. 2,000 in India). This is the right time to introduce the software as the same would prevent the customers visiting the Apple Store for the battery issues.

That would be a bearish sign for Apple. Apple has faced criticism for slowing down older iPhones with its iOS performance management feature, though the company has said it was not throttling performance as such.

"If sustained", Moskowitz writes, "then we think the prospect of that sought-after super cycle showing up is even less likely".

IPhones will automatically shut down in certain conditions: In the letter, Apple said that in certain conditions, such as extreme cold, the smartphone is created to shut down "to protect the device's electronics at low voltage". So it's not that the newer iPhone models don't have throttling practices.

Last week, the US Department of Justice and the said they were whether Apple violated securities laws concerning its disclosures that it slowed older iPhones with flagging batteries, Bloomberg reported. That's down from mid-January, when Barclays found it was 4 weeks and 6 weeks, respectively.

Rumors have been swarming that Apple plans on discontinuing its latest and most talked about smartphone device - the iPhone X. Well, according to a new report, that's at least half true.

More than a year after its battery slowdown update, Apple has been besieged by a flood of lawsuits seeking class-action status, and government watchdog agencies in France, Italy and South Korea began probes into whether Apple engaged in planned obsolescence. Barclays reduced their price target on shares of Apple from $174.00 to $170.00 and set an "equal weight" rating on the stock in a research report on Friday, February 2nd.
