More weather warnings issued for Ireland

Rain, sleet and snow are forecast for much of next week as children break up from school for half term

A new snow ice Status Yellow Weather Warnings has been issued by Met Éireann to go with two in force for wind and rain.

Snow accumulations of 3cm is expected, with larger amounts on higher grounds in Connacht and Ulster, and hail and sleet showers on Sunday.

A wind warning is in place for Munster, Leinster and Galway from 3pm this afternoon, with winds of 55 - 65km/h and gusts up to 110 km/h expected.

Connacht, alongside counties of Cavan, Monaghan and Donegal have been given rain warnings, registered as status yellow as well.

A spokesman said: "A very cold westerly airstream will bring frequent snow showers to many western and central areas on Sunday".

On its website, the Met Office says: "Icy patches are expected to form in places on untreated surfaces on Sunday morning".

Frost and icy patches will develop overnight, with lowest temperatures of -3 to 0 degrees.

There will be fresh to strong, gusty west to northwest winds with temperatures of 9C to 12C degrees, the higher temperatures in the south of the country.

TEMPERATURES in the Emerald Isle are set to get even lower. Towards evening, rain will develop in the west.

"Overnight it is very windy for much of the country".

However, the outlook for the weekend is for more icy conditions with wintry showers, ice and frost expected. Highest temperatures will range from 9°C to 12°C.

"On Sunday night, wintry showers will continue with accumulations of snow in places".

Friday morning will be cold with frost and wintry showers, according to Met Éireann.
