Using the aforementioned LORRI tool, New Horizons managed to snap images of multiple Kuiper Belt objects (KBOs), as well as dwarf planets, including the 2012 HE85 and 2012 HZ84 KBOs shown in the image above.

The Voyager 1 spacecraft previously held the record for the image taken furthest out in space, after it took the famous "Pale Blue Dot" image 27 years ago. It has the goal of observing "at least two-dozen" more Kuiper Belt objects.

Since New Horizons is just the fifth spacecraft to speed beyond the outer planets, many of its activities have set distance records, too.

NASA says the routine calibration frame of the "Wishing Well" galactic open star cluster was taken on December 5th 2017.

NASA's New Horizons spacecraft is making history again, this time one-upping the legendary Voyager 1.

The images for "Pale Blue Dot" - part of a composite - were taken from 3.75 billion miles (6.06 billion kilometres) away. They were captured 3.79 billion miles (6.12 billion kilometers) from Earth in December.

Pennsylvania's top court delivers scathing indictment of political gerrymandering
It could have implications for Pennsylvania in the aftermath of the state Supreme Court order to redraw congressional districts. In anticipation of Friday's deadline, lawmakers have begun the preliminary procedures that could pave the way for a new map.

"New Horizons has always been a mission of firsts - first to explore Pluto, first to explore the Kuiper Belt, fastest spacecraft ever launched", Alan Stern, the mission's principal investigator, said in the NASA statement. He further said that now they have been able to make images farther from Earth than any spacecraft in history. "The spacecraft also is making almost continuous measurements of the plasma, dust and neutral-gas environment along its path". The red line marks the path of the New Horizons spacecraft.

New Horizons has observed several Kuiper Belt objects (KBOs) and dwarf planets at unique phase angles, as well as so-called Centaurs - former KBOs in unstable orbits that cross the orbits of the giant planets on the edge of our solar system.

Launched in 2006, New Horizons spacecraft is created to explore worlds at the our solar system.

The spacecraft became the first to fly over Pluto in 2015, and the first to explore the Kuiper Belt.

New Horizons is sleeping now, resting up for its next big adventure.

New Horizons is still on an active mission to visit the Kuiper Belt. "New Horizons is on the hunt to understand these objects, and we invite everyone to ring in the next year with the excitement of exploring the unknown".
