Two Ohio police officers were killed in a shooting Saturday afternoon in a Columbus suburb, CBS News reports.

The officers were responding to a call, which was reportedly a 911 hang-up, in the town of Westerville when they were killed - the town confirmed their deaths in a tweet.

"These were two of the best we have", said Morbitzer.

No other details have been made available.

Westerville sits about 16 miles north of downtown Columbus, Ohio. They did not confirm how many people were shot or their conditions.

The shooting happened just before 1 p.m., according to Columbus Police. In a follow-up Tweet officials said a second officer, who was initially reported to be in critical condition, had succumbed to his injuries.

Police have not released information about a possible suspect, and say they will hold a press conference later Saturday.

The suspect was wounded and taken to a hospital, a city spokeswoman said.

"On behalf of everyone from the Toledo Police Department our thoughts and prayers are going out to all affected from this tragedy", Kral posted on Twitter.

"We are indebted to the courageous men and women who don the blue and the badge day in and day out to keep our communities safe", he continued.
