Bill Haas involved in fatal car crash near Riviera Country Club

Professional golfer Bill Haas was in a auto crash that killed his vehicle's driver in California on Tuesday night.

The driver of the vehicle Haas was travelling in - a member of the family with whom the world No.67 and his family were staying for the PGA Tour event this week - was pronounced dead at the scene.

Haas, a six-time PGA Tour victor and the son of professional golfer Jay Haas, was here for the Genesis Open, which will be played at Riviera Golf Course in Pacific Palisades starting Thursday. Both vehicles appeared to have major damage and were fairly far from each other, aerial video from the scene showed.

The driver of the Ferrari was killed in the accident.

The crash occurred in the 500 block of North Chautauqua Boulevard around 6:30 p.m., according to the Los Angeles Fire Department. The 71-year-old driver of the Ferrari was killed.

Haas's father, former PGA golfer Jay Haas, told the Golf Channel his son suffered some pain in his legs but was not seriously injured.

Haas, though, has withdrawn from this week's tournament and will return home to Greenville, N.C., according to a statement by the PGA Tour and Haas' agent, Allen Hobbs of Players Group Management.
