Porn Star Ready to Talk After Trump's Lawyer Admits Payment

Both Michael Cohen and Stormy Daniels have denied reports of a ‘hush money’ payoff

A lawyer for Stormy Daniels has corroborated Trump attorney Michael Cohen's claim that he paid the porn star $130,000 out of his own funds, saying in a statement the account is in "complete harmony" with what Cohen told him at the time of the 2016 transaction, The New York Times reported.

Common Cause had asked the FEC to investigate the source of the $130,000 payment and determine whether it represented an excessive campaign contribution.

Cohen reportedly set up a private LLC shortly before the 2016 presidential election to pay Clifford, following an alleged July 2006 sexual encounter with Trump, The Wall Street Journal reported in January. She had said the affair took place soon after Trump's wife, Melania, gave birth to the couple's son, Barron.

In his most detailed account yet of what happened, Cohen said in his statement that the payment was a "private transaction".

There is no evidence whether Trump knew anything about the payment, but it has surely fueled questions whether such a payment could violate federal campaign finance laws.

Daniels' manager, Gina Rodriguez, said that by issuing the statement, Cohen was in violation of a non-disclosure agreement with Daniels about the matter and that Daniels believes she can now talk about it publicly.

To make the payment, Cohen created a company called Essential Consultants LLC on October 16, 206 and used a bank account associated with the company to transfer the money to Clifford.

Trump attorney Michael Cohen denied that the Trump campaign was a party to the transaction with Daniels.

Her story then largely remained out of the public view until a month before the presidential election in 2016.

Another article published Tuesday at The Daily Beast reported that Cohen is shopping a book proposal about Trump that would discuss Clifford's story.

But in a 2011 interview with the gossip magazine In Touch Weekly, the actress - who the magazine said passed a polygraph exam - said the two had sex on one occasion and she described subsequent in-person meetings, phone calls and discussions about a potential TV appearance. Cohen said that the complaint is factually unsupported and does not have legal merit. "I will always protect Mr. Trump".

Clifford has been taking advantage of her new-found notoriety. Trump's lawyer, Cohen, has denied there was ever an affair.

He did not explain why he made the payment or say whether Trump was aware of it. The president also allegedly slept with Playboy model, Karen McDougal, and she sold her story to The National Enquirer but it was never printed.
