AB de Villiers ruled out of T20 series against India

Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane are all but set to bat at 3 and 4 respectively. However India could experiment with the remaining middle order slots in the sixth and final ODI vs South Africa at Centurion on Friday

The biggest draw in the Proteas line-up, de Villiers suffered a blow to the knee before the final One-day global played at the SuperSport Park in Centurion, which the hosts lost to concede the series 1-5.

South Africa suffered a blow even before a ball was bowled in the first T20I on Sunday, as AB de Villiers was ruled out of the series with a left knee injury.

De Villiers suffered a blow to the knee the day before the fifth ODI in Centurion last Friday, and has not recovered sufficiently to take part in the current three-match T20I series.

In a release, Cricket South Africa further said that de Villiers has been advised rest to allow him a full recovery ahead of the four-Test series against Australia starting in Durban on March 1.

It's crucial that the 33-year-old fires "on all cylinders" against the T20 series against India will be the ideal platform for De Villiers to regain his form.

One said: 'I wish I could say last nights show was incredible , but it was just terrible . Maybe it was a one-time bad night. "I genuinely hope he gets help", Yi continued.

South Africa were already fielding a depleted side for the T20Is, with De Villiers's injury makes things even tougher for the rest of the batsmen.

Duminy was handed the reins for the Twenty20 series after regular skipper Faf du Plessis fractured his right index finger in the first ODI.

South Africa had won the thee-match Test series earlier in the Tour, with AB being huge part of those wins.

De Villiers has been suffering from injuries in the recent past and was on his back after spending most of 2017 out of the national set up.
