Iran warns of 'nuclear crisis' if JCPOA deal is scrapped

Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister is threatening to pull out of a landmark 2015 nuclear deal unless economic sanctions against the country are eased.

According to the New York Post, the Islamic Republic's Deputy Foreign Minister announced the possibility during an global conference in London, saying the UK, China, France, Germany, Russia, and the United States' sanctions against Iran have caused big banks to stay away from major business deals.

23 de febrero de 2018, 10:18Tehran, Feb 23 (Prensa Latina) The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has confirmed Iran " s compliance with the nuclear restrictions stipulated in a 2015 agreement with the main powers, according to a quarterly report released here today.

The spokesman for the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) has said Washington's lack of commitment to the nuclear deal prompted Tehran to accelerate work on development of nuclear marine propulsion.

He said Iran was in Syria to fight "terrorist elements" at the invitation of the Syrian regime, and its alliance with Syria and the Lebanese "Hezbollah" group aimed to "combat the hegemonic policies" of Israel, reported the BBC. The banks suggested they feared U.S. punishment for cooperating under the terms of the deal.

But it does not explicitly prohibit Tehran from developing nuclear-powered ships or submarines unless they use weapons-grade uranium. He wants all three strengthened if the United States is to stay in the JCPOA.

US Olympic star Lindsey Vonn scatters grandfather's ashes near downhill course
But then came Holdener's team-mate Gisin, who ripped down a near-faultless run to leapfrog Shiffrin by nearly a second. Vonn finishes the 2018 games with a single bronze medal, in women's downhill.

Iran has filed repeated grievances, to little effect, and there's been talk of European nations like France directly financing deals to allow them to avoid working with the banks, though Iran remains clearly annoyed that the deal isn't working as intended.

However, US President Donald Trump sees the agreement as a legacy of his predecessor - former president Barack Obama - that he should undo. "Because if backroom diplomacy does not bear fruit, then eventually, you go to the megaphones, and you conduct megaphone diplomacy", said Marashi.

For two years, the United States, Iran, and other global partners were on the same page regarding Iran's nuclear program, Marashi explained, meaning that "the prospects for conflict were reduced". Iranians certainly do, which is also what Salehi-Isfahani thinks is behind Araqchi's statements: The need to sound tough in the face of mounting pressure from the United States. In addition, the inspectors determined that Tehran did not enrich uranium beyond the 3.67-percent purity limit.

Araqchi's effort to blame the Trump administration comes at a time that an increasing number of people are realizing how bad the consequences of nuclear deal have been, even among those who supported it originally. Coons said, "It is Iran's challenge to demonstrate that their economy is transparent enough, legitimate enough, secure enough, to attract foreign investment".

In exchange of Iran scaling back its nuclear programme, sanctions on its economy were lifted, and Tehran was allowed to resume trading oil and gas on the worldwide market.
