Some E-Cigarette Coils May Leach Lead, Other Toxins Into The Vapor

Huge e-cigarette discovery shocks scientists

A new study found significant traces of metals such as lead leak from e-cigarette heating coils into the vapour.

They found that there wasn't much to worry about with the e-liquid itself - there were only minimal levels of unsafe metals like lead, chromium, and nickel and manganese.

The results obtained from the study showed that the e-cigarettes generate significant levels of toxic metals including lead, chromium, manganese and nickel, chronic inhalation of which could damage lungs, liver, brain and can even lead to cancer.

Researchers sampled 56 vape devices from real life vape smokers - not newer models that aren't subject to the same toxins - that proved heating up substances in plastic is actually very bad for you.

Vaping allows users to ingest nicotine and enjoy the look and feel of tobacco-smoking, but without the extreme health risks of cigarettes.

In the study, the scientists examined e-cigarette devices owned by a sample of 56 users. Four metals were excluded because of low levels: arsenic, titanium, uranium and tungsten. The mechanism of e-cigarettes works by the presence of such metals that lets the electric current to pass through which then heat up the nicotine-based e-liquid and creates aerosol.

The culprits, the scientists think, are the heating coils that convert the e-liquid into a vapor to be inhaled.

Higher concentrations of toxic materials were also found in the aerosols generated by the devices, Forbes said.

Multan Sultans register second win in PSL-3
On the other hand, rest of the teams, apart from Quetta Gladiators, would be playing 6 matches in Dubai . Today's match will be played at 5:00 pm at Dubai International Cricket Stadium.

The data showed that almost 50 percent of aerosol samples contained lead in quantities above the Ambient Air Quality Standards set by the Environmental Protection Agency. Nickel, chromium and manganese approached or exceeded safe limits, the researchers report.

E-cigarette heating coils typically are made of nickel, chromium, and a few other elements, making them the most obvious sources of metal contamination, although the source of lead remains a mystery.

"We don't know yet whether metals are chemically leaching from the coil or vaporising when it's heated", Ana added.

The researchers also found aerosol metal amounts were higher in coils that are frequently changed.

He urged health associations to hold up until the point that more research has been done before recommending the prevalent smoking gadgets to patients.

E-cigarette use is more common among youth and young adults than older adults.

The Johns Hopkinsteam is planning future studies on vaping and metal exposures.

The Maryland State Cigarette Restitution Fund, the Alfonso Martín Escudero Foundation, the American Heart Association Tobacco Regulation and Addiction Center, and the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences funded the research.
