YouTube stopped hiring white men in attempt to boost diversity, lawsuit claims

Google accused of excluding Asians, whites for some positions

A former YouTube recruiter is filing a lawsuit claiming that the tech company discriminated against white and Asian men in its hiring practices.

Former Google recruiter Arne Wilberg, who worked in the company's YouTube division, also alleges that the Mountain View tech giant systematically discriminated against older engineers in its hiring and sought to purge internal correspondence about its illegal employment practices.

Wilberg's suit, filed January 29, states that he worked for seven years at Google, including time on the team for tech staffing at YouTube, the company's video-streaming unit.

The lawsuit describes several instances in which Wilberg says he raised concerns with supervisors and human resources executives only to allegedly be retaliated against. He also alleged that late previous year, management deleted emails and other digital records of diversity requirements.

The Wall Street Journal, in reporting on Wilberg's lawsuit, noted that "people familiar with YouTube's and Google's hiring practices" corroborated both the hiring freeze and the use of quotas.

The complaint paints recruiters inside Google as desperate to "manage the public relations problems" arising from the lack of women and underrepresented minorities.

Further, she stated that the company is not hesitant in accepting that they look for a diverse pool of qualified candidates for open roles, and this helps them in hiring the best people, improve culture and build better products.

Zimmer's quote may seem bad out of context, and some fans were upset at the quote without the full question and answer provided. Hoping to see that jump this year", Spielman said, via the Star Tribune ."I know he does work extremely hard at it.

The problem is that mandatory quotas based on gender or ethnicity may violate United States anti-discrimination laws, depending on how they're implemented.

Google has been slapped with yet another lawsuit over its diversity efforts.

Google is YouTube's parent company.

A Google spokesperson provided a statement regarding the lawsuit to Mashable over email.

According to the suit, Wilberg's manager, Allison Alogna, told staff to cancel interviews with Level 3 software engineers (those with 0-5 years' experience) if they were not female, black, or Hispanic. Perhaps it was an attempt to foster inclusivity, but candidates would not find that ratio reflected if they joined Google. When Wilberg did not adhere to those rules, his performance reviews suffered, he alleges.

What's more, Wilberg claimed that after he complained, the race-based policies continued, but Google told recruiters to delete references to tracking based on identity. Miley tweeted. "Save me the dogwhistle lawsuits and fake indignation".

Google's workforce diversity and culture is once again subjected to unwelcome headlines after another lawsuit was filed against the company. James Damore, who was sacked after criticizing Google's diversity efforts, filed a class-action lawsuit against the company in January. In a way, Google even popularized the idea of transparency around diversity numbers as a defensive tactic against claims about systemic inequality.
