The developer has released a brand new update for the game, and in a surprising twist, it adds a new mode as well as a new map.

We'll be referring to the rumoured title as Call of Duty Black Ops 4 from now on as the made-up roman numeral over there is pinging our OCD something FIERCE. After the call, Treyarch tweeted it was "looking forward to the year ahead", and "couldn't wait to share more".

Rumors regarding a potential "Black Ops 4" first began to surface in early February when Marcus Sellars publicly leaked that 2018's iteration of "Call of Duty" would be "Black Ops 4" and that it would be available on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, and Nintendo Switch.

Out of the blue, Activision have released new content for 2015's Call of Duty entry, Black Ops 3. What you do get in the box though is a fantastic return to form for Call of Duty with a solid multiplayer that will hopefully grow and evolve in future map pack updates.

Treyarch detailed what's included in the latest update, which should prompt automatically the next time you start up the game.

The new map is a winter-themed version of the popular Redwood map.

Infected, on the other hand, is the newest game mode coming to Black Ops III.

The publisher is now trialling a version of the survival mode in Call of Duty: Online, the free-to-play PC title exclusive to China.

Also, rather than dropping out of a plane, players choose their starting point at the beginning of every match themselves, an announcer narrates the match and a crowd will cheer every time someone is killed. We have a clear idea that creator Treyarch has evidently stated that they are developing this year's game, Activision has not yet confirmed the game's title though.
