Opioid overdoes in U.S. increased by 30% in only 14 months

"Emergency department (ED) visits for opioid overdoses rose 30% in all parts of the USA from July 2016 through September 2017", the CDC said in a press release on Tuesday.

Opioid overdose emergency department visits rose 30 percent across the country from July 2016 through September 2017, according to a report from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

CDC Acting Director Anne Schuchat said: "Long before we receive data from death certificates, emergency department data can point to alarming increases in opioid overdoses". It's not that more people are abusing drugs, it's the kind of drugs they're using.

In the face of the glaring data for Pennsylvania and similarly embattled states, the CDC provided some recommendations for how to coordinate responses to opioid overdoses. Missouri's rate increased by 21 percent.

The reasons for these increases are unclear, but officials say it may have to do with changes in the drug supply, including the availability of newer, highly toxic illegal opioids such as fentanyl, which has been spreading rapidly in recent years.

Nearly 100 people are dying every day across America from opioid overdoses - more than auto crashes and shootings combined.

Emergency room visits for opioid overdoses are skyrocketing across the country.

There were "large and steady increases" in cities, where the hospitals saw a 54 percent spike in overdoses, the CDC reported.

Warner, de Kock brawl shadows Australia's win
The statement from Cricket Australia read , "CA is aware of reports of an incident between players in Durban ". Warner's family, including his two children, are travelling with him on the South African tour.

It also found substantial overdose increases among most demographic groups. But those increases varied dramatically from state to state, even within a region.

The analysis was based on about 91 million emergency room visits that occurred between July 2016 and September 2017, including 142,557 visits that were suspected opioid overdoses.

"We're continually seeing a rise in deaths due to our inability to go upstream and actually prevent these people from overdosing", Miller said.

Other major outbreaks of overdoses included a 105 percent increase in DE, an 81 percent increase in Pennsylvania, and a 34 percent increase in Maine.

In 2016, drug overdoses were the cause of 64,000 deaths nationwide.

A study report issued last week by the Minnesota Department of Health, which surveyed data from 2,000 first-time medical marijuana users with intractable pain, said 42 percent of those patients reported a 30 percent decrease or more in their level of pain. And just last week, he held a high-profile summit on the epidemic at the White House. Miller said. "People seek alternative means to maintain their addiction or their high".

"The science is clear - addiction is a chronic disease and not a moral failing", he said.
