Walmart launches meal kits

Walmart expanding meal kits to more stores nationwide

In order to be back in the competition with Amazon, and Jeff Bezos, Walmart is now upping the ante.

Unlike Blue Apron or meal kits at other retailers, Walmart is introducing meal kit options that give shoppers greater flexibility when it comes to what's for dinner.

The company announced Monday that it will expand its meal kit offering to 2,000 brick-and-mortar stores by year's end. These meal kit programs often require subscriptions, since frequent purchases are needed to manage their business model. Amazon started selling ready-to-cook meals in July. The company, which has about 4,600 stores in the United States, is already selling them at 250 locations.

Net neutrality preserved by Washington State law
The New York Times reports that some two dozen other states have similar net neutrality provisions in the works. If you're just tuning into this mess, the Republican-dominated FCC just killed the net neutrality rule.

Walmart is rolling out new meal kits in a move to provide simple-to-cook, at-home dinner options. Meals are assembled daily in-store, and among the options are pre-portioned cooking kits available in deli sections that can turn the retailer's rotisserie chickens into meals like chicken fried rice, steak Dijon, basil garlic chicken and pork Florentine.

Blue Apron laid off hundreds of workers a year ago and its share price has plunged 74%. Blue Apron Holdings Inc., for example, has struggled ever since it became a publicly traded company, reported News Ok. The retail giant also is re-outfitting a dozen Sam's Club stores into distribution centers for Walmart's online grocery business.
