The Tuesday report shows opioid overdoses that led to emergency room visits across the country jumped 30% from July 2016 to September 2017. In 16 states hard-hit by the opioid epidemic, ER visits from overdoses rose 35 percent during that time. The largest increase - 109 percent - was in Wisconsin. And while the same report did not mention the number of deaths involved, another recent CDC report revealed that overdose deaths in general rose by around 14 percent from July 2016 to July 2017.

The greatest increases were noted in states in the Midwest region, including Wisconsin (109%), IL (66%), in (35%), OH (28%), and Missouri (21%).

"Opioid overdoses increased for men and women, all age groups, and all regions", said the report. "It might be even worse", Schuchat says. We asked him if he saw Fentanyl and well as heroin. "EDs can link these patients to mental health and substance abuse treatment centers, which can assist them in gaining access to medication-assisted treatment", Adams said.

Emergency rooms can provide naloxone, the overdose antidote, to reverse an overdose's symptoms and prevent death.

Chandrababu Pulls Out Ministers From Modi Cabinet
He said funds will be allotted according to the Finance Commission's recommendations but not on the basis of regional sentiments. However, in January this year, the state government modified the request and demanded the money through NABARD.

Dr. Aaron Weiner is the director of addiction services at Linden Oaks Behavioral Health.

Research shows people who have overdosed once are likely to do so again, making the ER a gateway for connecting people with treatment, Schuchat said. It also is increasing community outreach efforts to nursing homes to help address prescription opioid addiction among the elderly. Jim Perri said he and his co-workers are also swamped with patients.

"As medical professionals are becoming more aware of the potential for a patient to have an opioid overdose, the number of suspected cases will increase", she said.

The rate of such ER visits rose 105 percent in DE and 81 percent in Pennsylvania. Other states in the Eastern region, such as Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Rhode Island, showed nonsignificant decreases of less than 10%. But, she later added, "whether we are seeing real, true persistent declines or they are statistic fluctuations, we just don't know yet". Overdose visits alone don't capture the severity of the problem.
