Conrad K Sangma takes oath as Meghalaya CM

People stand in a queue as they wait to cast their vote at a polling station in Ro-Bohi Meghalaya

"During the election we have campaigned that we want to have a non-Congress and non-BJP government, this is the reason we don't want the BJP", HSPDP president Ardent Basaiawmoit told reporters.

But this win throws up hard questions for the ruling national party.

As the BJP and its alliance partners were on Monday all set to form Governments in Tripura, Nagaland and Meghalaya, the Congress said the BJP's "blind quest for power is superseding stability" of the north-east region.Congress spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala said the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was following a risky game of destabilsation, subversion and usurpation of power in the region.

HSPDP won 2 seats in the Meghalaya assembly polls. It won 12 seats in Nagaland and will be part of the coalition government along with Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP).

The saffron party has been represented by senior leader Alexander L Hek, who returned to the party before the assembly elections after a stint with the Congress.

Gandhi accused BJP of using monetary means to get control of the Northeastern state.

Giants acquire Alec Ogletree from Rams
Besides dealing away Ogletree and Quinn, they were also involved in a third trade that brought Marcus Peters to Los Angeles. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported that the Rams offered linebacker Alec Ogletree to the Chiefs as well.

The Congress was in power in Meghalaya for the last 15 years. Like in Manipur and Goa, showing utter disregard for the mandate of the people.

But Congress did not achieve a majority with its 21 seats, nor did the other parties.

Among those who were sworn in includes Conrad Sangma's elder brother James Sangma besides three former Congress ministers - Prestone Tynsong, Comingone Ymbon and Sniawbhalang Dhar - who were elected to the Meghalaya Assembly as NPP members. "Prime Minister Narendra Modi's strong leadership is responsible for it." he added.

"If we say there is no challenges, then we are running away from the truth".

The BJP had after ending 25 years of communist rule on March 3 said Mr. Deb was the frontrunner for the CM's post.

Conrad staked a claim to form the government in the hill state after forming an alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the People's Democratic Front (PDF), the Hill State People's Democratic Party (HSPDP), and the United Democratic Party (UDP) and received an invite from the BJP for the same.
