Oculus Rift headsets are offline following a software error

Every Oculus Rift VR headset bricked due to expired certificate

Tens of thousands of Oculus Rift users have run into a unusual error today which effectively disabled their headsets.

Where were you the day the Oculus Rifts died?

As of this morning, Oculus Rift users have been experiencing problems in using their devices, with many receiving error messages saying: "Can't Reach Oculus Runtime Service". Well, in a bit of classic Y2K-style wackiness, it turns out a certificate for the Oculus Runtime Service was allowed to expire earlier today.

If you were looking to get down on some Oculus Rift action today, you're going to have a bad time.

Richard Sherman Out in Seattle?
He is entering the final year of his contract and if he is released the Seahawks would save $11 million against the salary cap. Sherman, 29, was subject of trade rumors during the 2017 offseason but ultimately remained with the Seahawks .

Rebooting the Oculus software, or even the PC that it's running on won't fix the issue. Now they have to address their own internal problems with an expired certificate.

The current Nvidia driver version is 391.01, so Oculus Rift users facing these issues have to roll back quite far. This is also affecting developers and companies using the Rift professionally at events, conferences, and more. Though many are still looking for a solution, at least now we know that Oculus is aware of the problem and are actively searching for a fix.

There's now no estimated resolution time, but, some users have identified a temporary workaround: it's possible to bypass the issue by disabling Windows' "Automatically set System date and time" option, then manually setting the date back a few days.

We'll be providing an update as soon as we hear from the Oculus team.
