Dhawan powers India over Bangladesh

Rohit and Dhawan start will always be important for India's chances but against Bangladesh, they would like to score more in the death overs than they did against Sri Lanka.

India lost the inaugural match of the Nidahas T20I series against Sri Lanka by 5 wickets. Yuzvendra Chahal and Shardul then bowled some tight overs to make the chase interesting but Thisara Perera (22*) and Dasun Shanaka (18*) wiped off the arears comfortably to seal two points.

Mustafizur Rahman and Rubel Hossain made some initial inroads in to the India batting with the former accounting for India skipper Rohit Sharma (17) while the latter castled Risabh Pant (7) to increase the pressure on the young man from whom much is expected. India chased down the target in 18.4 overs to register their first win of the series.

After surviving Bangladesh's review of a not out lbw call from the umpire, Dhawan fired a pull over midwicket for his second maximum of the match, before a four in the next over brought up his half-century off 35 balls. Shikhar Dhawan scored highest 90 runs for the team India.

In the absence of the rested Jasprit Bumrah and Bhuvneshwar Kumar, the likes of Shardul Thakur and Jaydev Unadkat need to up their game in the unforgiving death overs.

Unlike the first game against Sri Lanka, Indian bowlers were right on the mark from the start after captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and opted to bowl.

Liton couldn't utilise the chances that he got as Chahal enticed him with a flighted delivery as Raina took a simple catch at long-off. "It was a decent wicket", he said.
