18-year-old Evoni Williams a waitress at a Texas Waffle House was seen in a viral

Evoni Williams, 18, has received an outpouring of praise after a photo of her cutting the food of an elderly man was shared on social media.

A Texas Waffle House employee has been given a college scholarship after her act of kindness toward a customer went viral.

"I was never raised to bash people, I was raised to help and try to give.give blessings", says Williams.

So he asked Evoni for help.

"My hands are not up to par". Despite the attention, she said she felt it was the right thing to do.

"That just meant something to me". Sitting nearby, patron Laura Wolf snapped a photograph and posted it to Facebook.

"Someone told me a few days later that I was very popular because they got me on Facebooks", Charpentier said.

The sweet gesture was rewarded Thursday with a sweet surprise by the City of La Marque.

La Marque Mayor Bobby Hocking on Thursday issued a proclamation making March 8 Evoni Williams Day.

"It just came from the heart", the teen told the television station.

The now-viral picture has become a gift for Williams, who graduated from high school in May and began working at the Waffle House to save up for college, as she was given a $16,000 scholarship from Texas Southern University, KHOU reports.

Williams plans to study business. Even though she was extremely busy, she didn't hesitate.
