Bannon to France's Far Right National Party: 'History Is on Our Side'

Le Pen wants France’s National Front to be renamed “National Rally”

Bannon told the audience that populist movements were a positive development and said, "the European Central Bank and the guys in Brussels better start listening or they're going to have a bigger revolt on their hands than they have today".

In his address, Bannon praised Le Pen's vision of a political fight between nationalists and globalists, even as a few party members warned that his support could damage Le Pen's efforts to cleanse the National Front of its racist stigma.

Le Pen defended inviting Bannon to the event.

And heading the line-up of guest speakers is Donald Trump's former adviser Steve Bannon.

Le Pen has long sought to "de-demonize" her party by distancing it from its origins.

Bannon's appearance was his latest stop on a European tour centered on last week's Italian election.

Bannon, an American nationalist who ran the right-wing Breitbart News, was among Trump's closest aides during the 2016 US election campaign, the presidential transition and his first months in office.

Steve Bannon has given a big boost to French far right leader Marine Le Pen, telling a cheering crowd at a congress of her National Front party that "history is on our side". He was ousted from the White House past year amid tensions and stepped down as chairman of Breitbart News Network in January after a public break with Trump.

Reasons You Shouldn't Buy or Upgrade to the Galaxy S9 now
As far as screen size goes, the Note 9 may well match the 6.3 inches of the Note 8 , just a shade bigger than the S9 Plus. It is expected to be similar to the Galaxy S9 Plus in many aspects, but the Note 9 will have many unique features as well.

National Front leader Marine Le Pen is working to unite her divided party and bolster her ability to lead it as the party meets for the first time since she lost resoundingly to Emmanuel Macron in the final round of the French presidential election last May.

Le Pen is expected to make the proposal at a party congress in Lille on Sunday and members will vote on it by mail ballot.

A new name, a new leadership structure and new bylaws are being unveiled at the two-day congress in Lille with the hope the anti-immigration party can become relevant again.

The National Front was co-founded in 1972 by her father, the convicted Holocaust denier Jean-Marie Le Pen, who continues to refer to Nazi gas chambers as a "detail" in the history of World War II.

A younger leadership circle will likely emerge, but Marine Le Pen, the only candidate for president, will remain.

Le Pen told French television on Friday that a name change was needed to show the FN had grown up and become "adult". The showing of the League, a National Front ally, "is a new step in the awakening of the people", Le Pen tweeted.

"She wants to revive her links with party members and gear up for next year's European Elections". Le Pen's niece, former lawmaker and rising far-right star Marion Marechal-Le Pen, who attracted traditional Catholics and other social conservatives, dropped out of politics, at least temporarily.

The party's deputy president Louis Aliot was the one who shed light to the explosive news about Bannon's speech on the first day of the conference.
