Rand Paul Attacker Pleads Guilty To Felony Assault Charge

Rene Boucher has accepted a plea deal for attacking US Senator Rand Paul as he was mowing his lawn in November of 2017

A judge set a June 15 sentencing date for the retired anesthesiologist in his late 50s. The charge carries up to 10 years in prison and a US$250,000 fine. Federal prosecutors plan to seek a 21-month prison sentence, while the defense will argue for probation.

Boucher's lawyer, Matthew Baker, disclosed to Week Facts Friday that his customer is "eased" to have "this period of the case behind him".

"This has been profoundly embarrassing for him, he's very much looking forward to moving on and this is the next step in achieving that", Baker said of his client Friday.

"It has been a longstanding question between two neighboring property proprietors over the issue of their property support of scarcity in that department".

Gauri Lankesh murder case: SIT gets 5-day custody of Naveen Kumar
The officials also alleged that Kumar is misleading the investigation with baseless answers to the investigation officers. The SIT had initially suspected that Naveen had ferried the murderer to Gauri's home in Rajarajeshwarinagar.

According to Associated Press, Boucher has agreed to pay restitution to Paul, but the amount will be confirmed during the sentencing later this year.

Rene Boucher, 59, pleaded guilty at a Bowling Green, Ky., federal courthouse to one felony count of assaulting a member of Congress resulting in personal injury, the Bowling Green Daily News reported. A close friend of Paul's said the Republican senator had gotten off his riding lawn mower to remove a limb when he was tackled from behind.

The two have always been next-door neighbors in their subdivision, but have disagreed over lawn maintenance. He said this was a dispute between longtime neighbors and not politically motivated.
