A warning if you use an Amazon Basics portable charger

Amazon is recalling six models of its AmazonBasics Portable Power Banks in cooperation with the US Consumer Product Safety Commission. The affected devices have the AmazonBasics on the front with the part number - B00LRK8EVO, B00LRK8HJ8, B00LRK8I7O, B00LRK8IV0, B00LRK8JDC or B00ZQ4JQAA - on the back.

The affected batteries are all Amazon's low-priced AmazonBasics brand.

Fortunately, there are about a million more power banks on Amazon right now that won't catch fire.

Six versions of AmazonBasics' lithium-ion battery chargers are being recalled including 16,100 mAh, 10,000 mAh, 5,600 mAh, 2,000 mAh with micro USB cable, 3,000 mAh and 3,000 mAh with USB micro cable. You can find those numbers printed on the back of the product.

In this case, Gizmodo reports the power banks were made by Guoguang Electric Company Ltd.in China. Seattle-based Amazon.com Inc. says it also is contacting customers. The power banks are all used as external battery supplies for smartphones and other products.
