Google Lens now available on iOS via Google Photos

Select a photo that is on your device, and then select the Google Lens icon.

The technology turns the camera into a smart scanner, of sorts. Earlier in the month, the company's visual search engine that recognises images and scans business cards, was rolled out to all Google Photos users on Android phones.

While not flawless, it's definitely useful at times, but so far iPhone and iPad users have been left out of luck.

Google began rolling out this innovative feature first to its Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL flagship smartphones late a year ago. If you own a Pixel phone, you can get Lens to identify what you're looking at before the shutter button gets pressed (it's in Google Assistant). Rather than taking a new photo, Lens works from an existing shot in your library.

If that's a business card, that means pulling out contact details.

Insurgent attack kills 10 Afghan security forces

A flyer or event billboard: You can add that event to your calendar.

Google says you can also see your Google Lens activity as well, if you have Web & Activity turned on.

Because this is a Google product, Google Lens does collect data about your activity. If you do not want to keep your history or want to clear it at any time, you can do so from the activity page. Of course, it didn't pull up the exact album in the photo, but it still got the artist right which, personally, I find a bit more impressive. So if you don't see the feature in the app, do not be alarmed, it will arrive shortly.

Google Lens will allow you to "get more details or take action on your photo", according to the company.
