Banksy unveils NY mural protesting jailing of artist

The mural consist of black marks, representing prison bars and serve as a marker for the number of days that Dogan has spent imprisoned.

After she was sentenced, Doğan wrote in a tweet, now deleted, that she "was given two years and 10 months only because I painted Turkish flags on destroyed buildings".

Banksy's mural has been timed to coincide with the anniversary of Dogan's first year in custody, according to a release from the artist's representative.

The 70-foot long mural protests the incarceration of a Turkish-Kurdish artist named Zehra Dogan.

Zehra Doğan, an ethnic Kurd, was arrested on July 21, 2016 after producing the painting, which depicts the damage inflicted upon Nusaybin, a city close to the Syrian border and populated largely by Kurds. The new Banksy was a collaborative effort with Borf, a graffiti artist who has spent time in jail for his artwork.

Possible Plans For Daniel Bryan At WrestleMania 34
It's a clear band-aid boost to revive falling numbers, but the SmackDown creative team only has themselves to blame for it. It was spoiled when the Bludgeon Brothers laid waste to all five men - including power bombing Woods onto the steel steps.

Provocative artist Banksy has revealed a 20m high artwork in NY to draw attention to the imprisonment of Zehra Dogan, a Kurdish painter from Turkey.

"One year ago Zehra Dogan was jailed for painting this watercolour of a photograph she saw in the newspaper".

A copy of Doğan's painting was projected on the wall above the mural on Thursday evening, along with the caption, "Sentenced to 2 years nine months and 22 days in jail for painting this picture".

Earlier this week, Banksy also stenciled a rat on the clock of a disused bank building on 14th Street in NY. However, [the Turkish government] caused this.

During her trial in February 2017, Doğan argued that in producing a painting of a real-life event based upon a photo taken and disseminated by the Turkish military, she was carrying out her work as a journalist. "I just painted it", Dogan is quoted as saying on her personal website. "I've painted things much more worthy of a custodial sentence".
