VAR to be used at Russian Federation, says FIFA president Gianni Infantino

1938- World Cup in France

Infantino said the hosts for the 2026 World Cup, to be decided at the FIFA Congress in Moscow in June, would be chosen in an open vote by its member national associations and details of how they voted would be published.

Infantino has previously spoken of his desire to see VAR used at the World Cup, although predecessor Sepp Blatter posted a tweet to express his disapproval.

Still, FIFA says "smaller stadiums for the 2022 FIFA World Cup" should mean ticket and hospitality sales of $500 million will be $75 million less than in 2015-18.

VAR was first used at the Club World Cup in December 2016, and trialled in the 2017 Confederations Cup.

The country was second to the United States in '94, behind France in '98 and just lost out to South Africa for the 2010 finals, the only time the event has been held in Africa.

The success of the U-17 event emboldened the All India Football Federation (AIFF) to submit a bid for hosting another FIFA tournament in two year's time.

However, Ligue 1 and La Liga will use the technology from next season, while the Bundesliga will vote whether to use the technology on March 22.

Miami Archdiocese offers prayers after bridge collapse
The bridge fell soon afterward. "We are committed to working with all appropriate authorities throughout this process". The method is aimed at reducing risks to workers, commuters and pedestrians and preventing traffic issues.

That move still left competition organizers to opt to use video review in their games, and FIFA's ruling committee had to sign off on the World Cup decision.

"We are not anxious at all, we are here to organise a football tournament", Infantino said.

The technology will still only be used to correct "clear and obvious mistakes" - to allow or disallow goals, award or deny penalties, show or rescind red cards, or correct instances of mistaken identity when a referee disciplines the wrong player.

Meanwhile, UEFA are yet to be convinced that video assistants are the way forward for the European game.

He said: "Nobody knows exactly how VAR will work".

More than half of FIFA's revenue will come from broadcasting rights, "86 percent of which is already contracted".

This is Morocco's fifth bid to host the World Cup, after their unsuccessful bids for the 1994, 1998, 2006 and 2010 editions of the tournament.
