Anfernee Hardaway agrees to be next coach at University of Memphis

Former NBA All Star Penny Hardaway shown here in 2014 is expected to be named head basketball coach at Memphis his alma mater

With Penny's official announcement as Head Coach of the Memphis Tigers coming Tuesday, Hardaway will be well on his way to step three.

Penny Hardaway [VIDEO] will be introduced as the new coach of the #Memphis Tigers men's basketball team in a press conference on Tuesday (March 20).

Penny Hardaway reflects on his heyday with the Orlando Magic. The announcement will be broadcast live on WMC Action News 5.

Attendance at Memphis basketball games nosedived under Smith-falling from more than 16,000 fans per game just four years ago under Josh Pastner to around 6,000 per game this past season.

The third pick in the 1993 NBA Draft, Hardaway replaces Tubby Smith, who was sacked earlier this month after only two seasons in which Memphis missed the NCAA Tournament and attendance at home games fell precipitously.

Singapore provides highest quality of living in Asia for expatriates: Mercer survey
Vienna tops the ranking for the 9th year running and is followed by Zurich (2), Auckland and Munich in joint 3rd place. In 2017, Singapore topped the city infrastructure ranking, followed by Frankfurt and Munich both in 2nd place.

Despite having no previous college coaching experience, Hardaway-a four-time NBA All-Star-has been in charge of the nationally successful AAU program, Team Penny, as well as East High.

Hardaway has ties to some of the top players in the area, including top-ranked junior James Wiseman. Tubby failed to qualify for the NCAA Tournament during his tenure there.

Over the weekend, Hardaway led East High School to its third-straight TSSAA Class AAA state championship. Born and raised in Memphis, Penny went on to play for the Memphis Tigers as well. Additionally, Penny is also eyeing National Basketball Association veteran Mike Miller for a spot on his staff.

Hardaway is not a coaching novice.
