Apple CEO Tim Cook spoke about the company's focus on privacy in an interview with Recode on Wednesday, and responded to questions about Facebook.

Cook said of his company that it could "make a ton of money if we monetized our customers, if our customer was our product". He follows that with: "We've elected not to do that". We're not going to traffic in your personal life. The message reads: "Apple believes privacy is a fundamental human right, so every Apple product is created to minimize the collection and use of your data, use on-device processing whenever possible, and provide transparency and control over your information".

Cook, who has long warned that Facebook's business model relied on harvesting data from its users - while boasting that Apple's profits off of a product - added that Facebook might be "beyond" the point of self-regulation. "I think that this certain situation is so dire and has become so large that probably some well-crafted regulation is necessary", Cook had said. "However, I think we're beyond that here", he said. While Tim Cook pointedly criticized Facebook for the Cambridge Analytica scandal, he also had harsh words for internet businesses in general, which includes Google. He has since made an apology for the misuse of personal data belonging to millions of users of the social network and talked about the steps the company will take to safeguard users' privacy. "I do think it's time that a set of people think deeply about what can be done".

Saudi Arabia Threatens Iran, Blaming Them for Yemeni Missiles
Much of the Arabian Peninsula country's infrastructure, including hospitals, schools and factories, has been reduced to rubble due to the war.

Mark Zuckerberg was roundly criticised for his slow reaction to the scandal and for failing to disclose the extent of Facebook's data collection practices to its shareholders.

While Apple has its own critics, Cook's criticism of Facebook is line with how Apple has operated in the past with regards to protecting user data.

MSN has a more comprehensive write up at the link below and the full "Revolution" interview with Tim Cook will air Friday, April 6 at 8 p.m. ET, 5 p.m. PT on MSNBC. He compared the App Store to "the corner store". "I wouldn't be in the situation".
