Net profit of Huawei surge in 2017

Huawei may have struggled with getting into the U.S. but the company is still the third-largest smartphone producer in the world-and one of the biggest network/communication OEMs.

Increasing market share in Europe will help Huawei compensate for some of the loss made in the U.S. This country is the most lucrative market in the world for smartphone manufacturers and Huawei could have benefited a lot if the deal with AT&T had gone through.

And if the company does manage to reverse those trends, it will still be a hard sell for USA consumers after several warnings from the country's defense departments. Last month, US lawmakers warned Americans not to buy or use Huawei products.

A partnership between Huawei and American operator AT&T to sell smartphones in the United States fell apart in January.

On Friday, the CEO of Huawei's consumer business, Richard Yu, told CNET via an email that the company isn't backing down of its goal to expand its business in the U.S. "We would never compromise that trust".

Huawei set up a Cloud Business Unit in 2017, which launched 99 cloud services across 14 major categories, and over 50 solutions.

As for the concerns about spying posed by Huawei products, Yu said, "The security risk concerns are based on groundless suspicions and are quite frankly unfair". Huawei says it's open to conversations with the US government as long as the talks are "based on facts". Calling the US governments' talk of spying "groundless speculation", Yu says that Huawei is not giving up on the U.S.

According to The Verge, the us consumers are losing out the most due to the decisions made by carriers and retailers against Huawei and other smartphone makers for that matter. If the phone is a success, it could put the company in the same standing as Apple and Samsung in the market of high-end handsets. Huawei P20 Pro gets a triple rear camera setup, while the P20 has dual camera setup at the back.

"The difficulties in the U.S. market will make us to work harder to seek growth from other regions around the world", he added.

Huawei is now the third-largest phone maker in the world. "Even without the United States market, we'll be No. 1 in the world", he was quoted as saying after the unveiling of the new P20 series by Channel News Asia.
