Still, those who hope the ESPN streaming service will offer high-profile National Football League games or National Basketball Association conference finals may be disappointed.

Walt Disney (DIS) said Monday that its ESPN streaming sports network, created to be a supplement to the main premium sports cable network, goes lives on Thursday, April 12. ESPN+ will also be part of a redesigned ESPN app that will serve as an all-in-one digital sports destination.

Disney has been ramping up its efforts to win over people whose viewing habits are shifting away from cable TV, and toward digital streaming services like Netflix and Prime Video from Amazon.

While there isn't a definitive listing of all the programming that will make its way to ESPN+, the company did list a wide range of content that will be making its way to the platform like MLB, NHL, Top Rank Boxing, MLS, college sport, PGA Tour, Grand Slam, rugby, cricket, and more.

Outside of the subscription offers, the new ESPN app will include sports news, highlights and scores, the aforementioned linear ESPN TV networks to authenticated subscribers, and ESPN Audio. Alternatively, there'll be a $49.99 per year subscription option, which brings the monthly price down to $4.17.

At $4.99 a month customers have access to live sporting events, original content and scripted shows on the app.

"ESPN was built on a belief in innovation and the powerful connection between sports and a remarkable array of fans", said newly appointed ESPN president James Pitaro.

Subscribers will have access to a featured daily Major League Baseball and NHL game throughout their respective seasons, which amounts to more than 180 live games of each sport. Additionally, ESPN+ will be the exclusive local-market home for the Chicago Fire, bringing 27 Fire matches to fans in Chicago. Meanwhile, passionate cricket fans across the US will get matches across Test, ODI and T20 formats from New Zealand Cricket and Cricket Ireland. His work has been featured on Sports Illustrated,,, and many others.

Today, Disney and ESPN have announced that ESPN Plus will be launching on April 12th.
