Facebook has updated its Messenger app to allow users to send 360-degree photo, as well as support 720p HD video.
The function is relatively simple to use and provides a clear, zoomed-up 360-degree view of the surroundings.
Messenger will identify 360-degree photos with the same compass icon as you would see in the regular Facebook app.
After the photo is sent, Facebook will convert the photo into an immersive 360-degree experience on mobile, which receivers can scroll through by tapping and dragging their screens, or by tilting their phones.
Facebook has released a minor update for Facebook Messenger today which makes the app more useful for sending multimedia content.
Undertaker returns to WrestleMania, defeats John Cena
Seated among the fans at ringside, Cena watched the first two matches of the night before something very unusual happened. No attire left in the middle of the ring, no embracing his family ringside and no good-bye gestures to the crowd.
Allowing users to use the panorama function on their phones might be a smart move, as they would then be able to take multiple shots and pick the best one to send. Facebook has been under scrutiny in recent weeks over how it handles users' private data and the revelation struck a nerve.
"On the heels of our high resolution photo news introduced last fall, we're also launching the ability to share HD quality videos straight to Messenger", the duo added. The 360 degree photos in Messenger are available globally on both iOS and Android platforms.
Speaking of the News Feed, Facebook has launched some new features related to news stories. HD quality videos are available to users on both platforms in Australia, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Hong Kong, Japan, Netherlands, Norway, Romania, Singapore, South Korea, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, UK and the U.S. HD quality videos are available in Australia, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Hong Kong, Japan, Netherlands, Norway, Romania, Singapore, South Korea, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, UK and the United States on iOS and Android.
Facebook, however, has insisted its monitoring software is used across the whole platform, not just Messenger, to ensure content abides by "community standards", and that they are not scanning messages for the goal of targeted advertising.
