Cameroon Athletes Have Gone Missing From The Gold Coast Commonwealth Games

The 2018 Games are now underway in the Gold Coast in the Australian State of Queensland.

Isle of Man's Tim Kneale won his country's first medal at this year's Games by taking silver while Ankur Mittal continued India's medal rush at the shooting range by winning the bronze.

Sean McComb, 25, was fined $756 and banned from the Gold Coast's nightclub districts after the incident outside Sin City nightclub about 2.30am on Tuesday.

The 20-year-old added a silver in the 200m individual medley, and four bronze medals.

The Australian Border Force has been alerted and Commonwealth Games officials are concerned about five Cameroon athletes who have gone missing on the Gold Coast.

This is the second time since 2012 that Cameroonian athletes have gone missing at an global competition.

Of those 100 athletes, 45 tried to stay in Australia, including athletes from Sierra Leone, Rwanda, Tanzania and Cameroon.

"I think it's disappointing that athletes that have come didn't compete as they were scheduled to compete", he said.

Commonwealth Games officials have revealed they are concerned about eight Cameroon athletes who have gone missing, NEWS.com.au reports.

Olusoji Fasuba, a member of quartet that won the 2004 Olympics Game 4x100m bronze medal on Wednesday said that Team Nigeria's relay would perform well at the ongoing Commonwealth Games. "We have no idea where they are".

David Grevemberg, Commonwealth Games Federation CEO, said the situation remained an issue for the Cameroon team until the athletes breached their visas.

"I think that is the the first time that New Zealand have lost two in the pool stages, but to be honest that is music to my ears". Seven Olympic athletes from Cameroon, including 5 boxers, a swimmer and a reserve women's goalkeeper also went missing during the London 2012 Olympics.

Cameroon weightlifters Francois Etoundi and Simplice Ribouem both received refugee status, and were in the 2018 Australian team.

Before the start of the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games, Home Affairs Minister Peter Dutton warned athletes would be monitored to ensure they did not go on the run or outstay visas.

Organising committee manager Peter Beattie urged the athletes to return and implored them not to disregard laws that are in place.
