Everyone Is Dunking on Mark Zuckerberg About His Facebook Congressional Hearing

Silicon Valley's finest all want the Pentagon's cloud contract, even if it's not a sensible idea

He faced questions from 44 senators Tuesday, and is taking more from 55 members of Congress on Wednesday about everything from Facebook's data collection practices to how the site should be regulated in the US.

And his company regained more than $25 billion in market value that is had lost since it was revealed in March that Cambridge Analytica, a data-mining firm affiliated with Donald Trump's presidential campaign, gathered personal information from 87 million users to try to influence elections.

"The internet is growing in importance around the world in people's lives, and I think that it is inevitable that there will need to be some regulation", he said.

However, the latest round of jokes being made online aren't about Zuckerberg, but about the senators themselves, with many pointing out that the lawmakers are a lot older than the Facebook founder and are, at times, showing a lack of understanding about the world of social media and tech. "In retrospect, it was clearly a mistake to believe them".

He called Facebook a "virtual monopoly" and said "continued self-regulation is not the right answer when it comes to dealing with the abuses we have seen on Facebook".

Facebook and Cambridge Analytica face multiple lawsuits over alleged misuse of personal information with at least five law firms in the United Kingdom and USA investigating claims for compensation.

However, in a series of questions on how people can remove data from Facebook, Mr Zuckerberg said Facebook does "collect data on people who are not signed up for Facebook for security purposes".

"I started Facebook, I run it".

The Never-Ending Saga Of The Audi E-Tron Continues
The E-Tron Vision Gran Turismo weighs a little less than 3,200 pounds, and the weight distribution is said to be ideal 50:50. Then Porsche was tasked with developing the Mission E battery electric sedan and the Audi E-Tron faded into the background.

"It may surprise you that, on Facebook's page, when you go to 'I don't have a Facebook account and would like to request all my personal data stored by Facebook, ' it takes you to a form that says go to your Facebook page, and then, on your account settings, you can download your data", Lujan said.

Titled "Transparency and Use of Private Data", today's hearing will cover some of the same ground as the Senate hearing, but the representatives will probably press Zuckerberg on answers they weren't satisfied with from yesterday.

"I've just seen it over and over again - that we have the hearings, and nothing happens", he said. Zuckerberg confirmed that a paid option is on the table, but suggested that his priority is letting users access Facebook for free. Zuckerberg responded, "I'm not sure what that means".

Although numerous questions that were asked seemed a bit off-topic-often due to the apparent lack of understanding about the company-some senators did focus their attention on the topic at hand.

Mr Zuckerberg also revealed that Facebook is cooperating with the United States special prosecutor investigating Russian interference in the 2016 vote.

That explained how the leaked data included information users hadn't directly handed over to Facebook. "Through those tools, Facebook is able to collect information from all of us", she said, referring to Facebook "Like" buttons that appear on many websites.

"We don't have an opt-out at the highest level".
