Hanna Dickenson: Fake Cancer Scam Lands Woman in Jail

Staff member Tammy Kent, leads the teams

Her parents, who are farmers, could not afford the alleged treatments and asked neighbours and friends to assist.

Her parents managed to receive some donations from their kith and kin to support their daughter's treatment but the court was told that Hanna spent most of the money on lavish holidays and socialising.

The then-19-year-old had tricked her financially struggling parents into rounding up thousands of dollars from their own savings, as well as the bank accounts of their friends and neighbours, to fund her party lifestyle.

Dickenson told her parents she was severely ill with leiomyosarcoma, and not responding to treatments at Epworth and Peter MacCallum hospitals.

Melbourne Magistrates Court heard that Hanna Dickenson was partying hard and needed money to live a party lifestyle, involving drugs, alcohol, and global holidays.

Dickenson pleaded guilty to seven counts of obtaining property by deception in the Melbourne Magistrates' Court.

"There's been a request for financial assistance in circumstances where it had been purported that Ms Dickenson had very few options left", Mr Starvaggi said.

Saudi Air Defense Intercepts Missile Over Najran, Shoots Down Two Drones
Malki said Saudi forces also intercepted two missiles in the southern Jizan and Najran provinces, close to the border with Yemen. More than 10,000 people, half of them civilians, have been killed with over two millions displaced in the three-year war.

Magistrate David Starvaggi has sentenced Dickenson for "despicable" actions that "tear at the very heartstrings of human nature".

But her charade was uncovered when another of Dickenson's victim's discovered photos on her Facebook profile which made him suspicious about her claims of ill health.

Describing her offence as "despicable", a court in the state of Victoria sentenced Dickenson, now a real estate agent, to three months in jail, 150 hours of community work and treatment for mental health issues and substance abuse.

An Australian celebrity blogger, Belle Gibson, was fined around $318,000 in 2017, after falsely claiming to have beaten brain cancer.

Ms Lindsay argued that her client's offending was less severe than Gibson's.

"She hasn't engaged in this behaviour for three years, she's been a model worker ... she's turned her life around, she's proven that".

"I couldn't think of a worse case to manifest itself needing both specific and general deterrence".
