Mark Zuckerberg made $3 billion while answering questions from Congress

Popular pro-Trump sisters Diamond and Silk Wednesday night claimed Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg lied when he told Congress his team had gotten in touch with them to correct an "enforcement error".

But before we talk of that, a few words about what exactly Facebook is doing here.

CORNISH: So was it more of the same in terms of the style of questioning?

Zuckerberg said it would take "many months" to complete an audit of other apps that might also have improperly gathered or shared users' data.

I think there's a little bit of hypocrisy here. That's also what makes Facebook so bad: It knows everything about you. After about 10 hours of hearings on Tuesday and Wednesday, markets rallied and privacy advocates were disappointed at the prospect that Facebook appeared to emerge unscathed, left to its own devices to manage how it collects vast amounts of personal data and handles user privacy. As for ads, it's for "the ad network that third-party websites and apps can run in order to help them make money", he said, adding that ad tracking can be turned off.

From this point of view, Facebook's biggest competitors are work and sleep.

Facebook does have a policy to remove or hide content they deem unsafe or hate speech.

"He's giving the same responses to the same questions from different senators", said Helio Fred Garcia, a professor of crisis management at NYU and Columbia University in NY.

CARTER: You wouldn't be here if it wasn't for the privacy, people's information and the privacy and the fact that you had this lapse. And so what chance do other companies who are less well-skilled, less well-resourced that we also invest our personal data in, what chance do these companies have at keeping the personal data safe if Facebook can't?

PMO clarifies over PM Modi's tour program for April 12
They feel that if the poor are empowered, it would no longer be possible to mislead them with lies. Meanwhile, reports have said that Modi will go about with his daily routine as the PM of India.

Facebook saw overall ad spend on its site go up by 62 per cent, creeping up by seven per cent the week of March 17 when the news broke, and 15 per cent the week after.

"I received an email from Facebook that lists the people who have all invited me to join Facebook: my aunt, an old co-worker, a friend from elementary school, etc". Listen to this exchange between Democrat Ben Ray Lujan of New Mexico and Zuckerberg.

The Facebook founder was under a lot of scrutiny - check out all these photographers - so feeling some pressure is understandable.

Sen. Lindsey Graham started his line of questioning asking Zuckerberg to list Facebook's top rivals; Zuck tried to break out the company's competitors into categories (category No. 1: other tech platforms, aka Google, Apple, Amazon, Microsoft), but Graham dismissed that attempt with a auto analogy.

ZUCKERBERG: Congressman, yes. We take this very seriously.

Zuckerberg took almost 10 hours of questions from U.S. senators and congressional representatives on Tuesday and Wednesday, after facing political pressure to testify about the social network's Cambridge Analytica scandal. So to make them care it's only recently that Facebook has allowed you to download all of the data that they have on you.

DATA DANGER What is Cambridge Analytica and what's the Facebook data scandal? He gave no timeline.

CORNISH: Any indications what lawmakers might do next?

What happens next is unclear, but Bedoya said he hopes Congress can focus on a package of specific reforms, such as protections that forbid tracking individuals by location or facial recognition without their consent.
