Liverpool protest held over withdrawal of toddler's life support

Alfie Evans update

Police were called last night as hundreds of protesters stood outside the children's hospital where terminally-ill Alfie Evans is staying.

Their number have been increasingly growing in the last few hours, and more are expected to join.

"We will not give up and we will show the world who Alfie's army is and how strong our awesome Alfie is".

A spokesman for Alder Hey Children's NHS Foundation Trust said: "Alfie's clinical condition is truly heart rending but at each stage of the legal process which has to be followed in such cases, the courts have agreed with the treating team and the independent expert advisers instructed by the trust and the family that Alfie's condition is irreversible and untreatable".

"I have documentation that says I have the right to take my son out of the hospital. If he goes and he dies at least he has died a hero, trying".

"As part of that process, his parents are making further appropriate representations to the Court of Appeal to present their views".

They also claim that court order ends at the point that Alder Hey removes the ventilation from him and at that point they can take over and take him to Rome.

A video posted on Facebook showed Alfie's father filming his son in the hospital and holding a letter he said states he has the right to leave with his child.

Earlier this week, parents Tom Evans and Kate James were told that a date to switch off life support for their son had been set by High Court judge Anthony Hayden.

In fact, many are quick ot point out that the 2017 MVP steals rebounds from teammates. "I take pride in what I do". Talk about lasting impressions-rookie Dillon Brooks , the only Grizzly to play all 82 games, goes out with a bang.

Speaking on behalf of himself and his partner Kate James, 20, Mr Evans said: "Yesterday we attempted to discharge our son Alfie Evans from the care of Alder Hey, legally, by formally withdrawing their duty of care".

As the news emerged, a message on Twitter bearing the hashtag #SaveAlfieEvans read: "Everyone come back to Alder Hay".

The couple, from Liverpool, have asked the courts to allow Alfie to continue to receive treatment but have already lost fights in the High Court, Court of Appeal, Supreme Court and European Court of Human Rights.

Alfie is in a semi-vegetative state and has a degenerative neurological condition that has never been definitively diagnosed by doctors.

Officials from the appeals court confirmed a hearing has been listed for Monday April 16, although it is unclear what basis it has been granted on.

This is despite a judge on Wednesday ruling Alfie's life support will be switched off on a date that can not be revealed due to legal reasons.

Later outside the hospital, Mr Evans held up three passports as he told the crowd that doctors from Poland had accompanied him and the family had planned to take Alfie for treatment in Italy.

Roger Kiska of the Christian Legal Centre, representing Alfie's family in court, said the family should be allowed to take Alfie overseas to try foreign treatment which has been offered to him.
