Russian Federation and Iran warn of 'consequences' as North Atlantic Treaty Organisation backs Syria bombing

NATO head to pay official visit to Turkey on April 16

Commenting on the joint attack against Syrian military facilities by the United States, Britain and France, NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg Saturday said the global community should have a collective and effective response to the recent use of chemical weapons in Syria.

Recalling the consistent North Atlantic Treaty Organisation condemnation of Syria's continued use of chemical weapons, the alliance chief said the alleged use of such weapons had been a clear breach of global norms and agreements. The alliance's chief said that the strikes "degraded the capabilities of Syria to conduct new attacks".

US President Donald Trump on Friday launched precision air strikes on Syria in a combined operation with France and Britain.

"The use of chemical weapons is unacceptable, and those responsible must be held accountable", Stoltenberg said.

Most of the FARC demobilized previous year , but splinter groups dedicated to drug trafficking have emerged in some regions. He said their captors have 12 hours to demonstrate otherwise before a major military strike will be launched against them.

"Strikes by US, France and United Kingdom make it clear that Syrian regime together with Russia & Iran can not continue this human tragedy, at least not without cost", Tusk posted on Twitter on Saturday. "NATO strongly condemns the repeated use of chemical weapons by the Syrian regime".

Vladimir Putin said the strikes were an "act of aggression" that would have a "destructive" influence on worldwide relations.

"The EU will stand with our allies on the side of justice", he added. The allies put the blame of the attack on Damascus, while the Syrian leadership denied any involvement in the use of chemical weapons.

Saudi Arabia on April 14 expressed its full support for USA -led strikes on Syrian government military installations, saying they were a response to "regime crimes" against civilians.
