200 million eggs recalled due to salmonella risk

Over 200 million eggs have been recalled from an IN farm after concerns of salmonella contamination.

Over 200 million eggs are part of the voluntary recall because they might be contaminated with salmonella.

The affected farm has paused its egg distribution and the company has voluntarily recalled more than 206 million eggs.

According to the FDA, those states include Florida, Colorado, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Virginia, and West Virginia through retail stores and restaurants via direct delivery.

The recall is the largest in the United States since 2010, according to Food Safety News.

If you think you may have purchased eggs involved in this recall, check your carton for plant number P-1065 with the date range of 011 through date of 102, the FDA says.

David Rust began Rose Acre Farms in IN as a family operation with 1,000 hens in the 1930s and it grew to 17 facilities in eight states, according to its website. The eggs were sold under the brands Country Daybreak, Sunshine Farms, Coburn Farms, Crystal Farms, Glenview and Great Value.

Salmonella is particularly harmful to the elderly and young children, causing symptoms such as abdominal pain, vomiting, fever and diarrhea.

So far, 22 cases of illness from the eggs have been reported, the FDA says. Salmonella Braenderup is a bacteria sometimes found in raw foods that can cause serious illness if ingested.

Consumers who have purchased shells eggs are being told to immediately stop using the eggs.
