Blue Jays-Royals game postponed due to hole in roof

Rogers centre snow ice

The Royals' home game Sunday against the Angels also was postponed because of weather.

A Kansas City sportswriter considers it karma that Monday night's game between the Toronto Blue Jays and visiting Royals was postponed after nasty weather damaged the roof at Rogers Centre.

The game will now be played on Tuesday afternoon, beginning at 3:07 p.m., as part of a traditional doubleheader.

This is Toronto's third straight postponement and the fourth of the season for Kansas City.

Incidentally, the Royals were the opposition the last time a game was postponed at Rogers Centre, back on April, 2001. There were tarps on the infield near shortstop and others down the left-field line.

But it was the gaping hole in right field, believed to have been caused by ice falling from the adjacent CN Tower, that was the biggest concern.

"It's hard to describe, it was really loud", Miller said.

Team officials consulted with engineering staff, CN Tower representatives and the Toronto Police before making the decision to reschedule the game.

Security is now taping off areas and putting up barricades on the south side of the tower, she said. Crews were unable to access the damage earlier this morning as more ice could fall, the report said.

We will continue to assess the situation and provide an update shortly.

The Toronto Blue Jays said a freezing rain storm over the weekend collected ice on the CN Tower. More than 120,000 customers remain without power.
