Freiburg coach Christian Streich, who was recently sent off for dissent in a league match, was on the sideline smiling and shaking his head in disbelief after being told to get his players back out on the pitch.

VAR came to the forefront of proceedings in the in Monday evening's clash between Mainz and Freiburg, as the referee awarded a penalty after the half time whistle.

Mainz were rewarded with a penalty when the players had already left the pitch for half-time.

De Blasis scored in the 78th minute to put the game to bed for the hosts, taking Mainz above Freiburg on goal difference to 15th, with both teams on 30 points.
