Amazon announces new app feature to cater international customers

Amazon Simplifies International Purchases Of U.S. Goods

The tech giant has launched a new global shopping feature that will allow people in several countries to buy products from its US marketplace.

Amazon boxes are seen stacked for delivery in the Manhattan borough of New York City, January 29, 2016.

Amazon has launched the "International Shopping" experience within its existing mobile app, making it easier for Kiwis to purchase products from the online retailer by screening out items ineligible to ship to New Zealand.

"The International Shopping experience displays clear pricing, shipping costs, and import duty estimates, with Amazon coordinating with courier services for customs clearance on behalf of the customer".

SpaceX to Launch NASA's Exoplanet-Hunting Spacecraft Today
The project is led by astronomers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and managed by NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center. The U.S. space agency says the launch of its next planet-hunting satellite will take place "no earlier" than 6:51 p.m.

Amazon said that items can be purchased in 25 different currencies and that its worldwide shopping tool can be accessed in five languages, including Spanish, English, simplified Chinese, Brazilian, Portuguese and German. Users can also turn the feature on by themselves and customise the language or currency. Created to make it easier to shop for items from the U.S., this latest version will provide clear information regarding available products and their total cost, including shipping.

Amazon has launched its International Shopping experience in the Amazon Shopping App. Essentially, the app can now show items which ship to Canada from global destinations in local currency.

For anyone downloading the Amazon app from the Apple Store or Google Play, this setting has become the "norm" and will provide a catalogue based on current location.

Amazon has promised a wider currency and language support in 2018. Previously worldwide customers had to look at the USA website and check if individual products were eligible for shipping. These efforts point to the company's broader mission toward expanding globally and connecting with consumers around the world.
