No charges filed in pop star Prince's death

Prince performs during the halftime show at the Super Bowl XLI football game at Dolphin Stadium in Miami

Prince, born Prince Rogers Nelson, was 57 when he was found unresponsive in his Paisley Park estate in Chanhassen on April 21, 2016.

"We simply do not have sufficient evidence to charge anyone with a crime related to Prince's death", Carver County Attorney Mark Metz told a news conference on Friday (Thursday local time). An autopsy found 67 micrograms of fentanyl per liter in Prince's bloodstream, more than enough to act as a fatal dose to any human being.

"Therefore, without probable cause and no identified suspect, the Carver County Attorney's Office can not file any criminal charges involving the death of Prince".

Evidence showed Prince thought he was taking Vicodin, not the more potent fentanyl that killed him.

According to investigators, Schulenberg treated Prince for nausea and fatigue on April 7, 2016, at North Memorial Clinic in Minnetonka.

Legal documents unsealed past year revealed that the musician had medication prescribed to him under the name of his bodyguard, Kirk Johnson. On a stage lit purple and during a torrential Miami downpour, Prince gave his greatest performance of "Purple Rain". ever.

Prince's career has been filled with mindblowing performances, but his Super Bowl XLI halftime show in 2007 defines his career.

And Reuters reports that another huge industry player , Botox maker Allergan , may try to scoop up Shire from under Takeda's nose. And if a takeover of that scale is done, it would be the third biggest acquisition of a UK-traded company in history.

He had given pills to the musician by making out prescriptions to drummer and long-time friend of Prince, Kirk Johnson. Schulenberg prescribed 15 Percocet pills, a narcotic used for pain management. However, investigators said this was not the drug that killed the pop star.

"Nothing in the evidence suggests Prince knowingly ingested fentanyl", Metz said, adding there was "no evidence that the pills that killed Prince were prescribed by a doctor".

It was also revealed the doctor in question had paid a $30,000 fine as part of a civil settlement over accusations of illegally prescribing painkillers to Prince.

After returning to Minnesota, Prince had began to show symptoms of withdrawal from narcotics. In his press conference today, Metz noted that the drugs Schulenberg prescribed did not contribute to Prince's death.

"After he learned of Prince's addiction, he immediately worked to refer Prince to a treatment facility and to transfer care to a chemical dependency specialist", she continued.

"We are in the middle of an unprecedented and horrific epidemic of opioid overdoses in this country", Metz said. The medical examiner determined that the singer died from an accidental overdose of the opioid fentanyl.
