Vikings Exercise Option on CB Waynes, Re-Sign CB Newman

The Vikings secured Trae Waynes for the 2019 season

Like the famous Energizer Bunny, Vikings cornerback Terence Newman keeps going and going and going.Minnesota announced Monday that Newman re-signed for his 16th professional season.

Newman, who will be 40 in September, will play his 16th National Football League season in 2018 and provides valuable locker room leadership and is also still productive on the field. The No. 5 overall pick in the 2003 NFL Draft played the first nine years of his career for the Dallas Cowboys, before signing with the Cincinnati Bengals in 2012.

But with Mike Zimmer's penchant for slowly bringing cornerbacks along, Waynes will likely continue to take on a starring role in the Vikings secondary for the foreseeable future.

The Kenosha, Wisc. native has five career interceptions and logged a career-high 72 tackles in 2017 for the NFL's top-ranked defense. Newman has 205 career starts.

Calamos Advsr Limited Liability Corporation holds 285,862 shares or 0.25% of its portfolio. 5,623 were reported by Plancorp Ltd. The fast-food giant reported $1.79 earnings per share for the quarter, beating analysts' consensus estimates of $1.67 by $0.12.

With Newman's signing, the Vikings' depth at cornerback appears to be solid.

The Minnesota Vikings have exercised the fifth-year option on CB Trae Waynes.

The Vikings and Waynes will look to sign a new deal within the next year or so, but he's now situated under his current contract to be with the team through 2019. Even as Newman remained unsigned at the start of the Vikings' offseason workouts, both Zimmer and general manager Rick Spielman continued to leave the door open for his return. The team begins organized team activities on May 21.
