Arizona teachers to end strike if lawmakers reach budget deal

Arizona Teachers Say They'll Go Back To School If Budget Is Passed

She said she is a Republican but is fed up with the state Legislature and with Ducey.

Educators packed the state Senate gallery on the fifth day of the walkout Wednesday to hear the budget plan proposed by Republican Gov. Doug Ducey and Republican legislators brought to the floor.

To help parents with child care, Mesa Public Schools, the state's largest district, partnered with the suburban Phoenix city to hold day camps at several recreation centers staffed by about 200 volunteer teachers and school staff. We are working on our calendar and look forward to sharing it once it is complete. So districts with more mature teachers already making more will get less; districts with lower-paid teachers will have enough to give out more than 19 percent.

"The reality is, you can not make up a billion [dollar] deficit by using the same amount of income that we have", Rios said.

When the plan started moving through the legislature, they said they'd go back to school and figure out new ways to keep the momentum going. The initiative, if included in the November ballot, would plan to increase income tax on wealthier Arizonans to support education funding.

"Arizona's economy is thriving", the governor tweeted. The devil is in the details.

"They more they know, the more at ease they feel about what's going on", she said.

Yale Rescinds Honorary Degree From Bill Cosby
In a three-sentence statement, the university said the decision was due to his conviction. "Yesterday, Dr. The school's board of trustees voted to rescind the degree it awarded to Cosby in 2003.

The walkout, which began April 26, prompted thousands of Arizona teachers to descend on the state capitol daily demanding higher wages and more education funding.

Thomas and Karvelis' statement continued, "Here is what we know, over 100,000 people marched on the Capitol over the past two days and we stood in the heat for hours and hours. When the governor and his friends at the Capitol had a chance to meet with us they left town".

Flagstaff Unified School District has announced that all schools in the district will be closed Thursday.

"Where is the money coming from and can we even trust him?" He said when he called off school for the fourth day in a row, he received more "angry communications" from parents than he had last week.

Others wondered how long the walk-out would continue and how it was starting to affect them personally. "I commend you for being here", Farnsworth said. Other districts have said they may be able to make up missed time by adding hours to existing days, instead of adding days to the school year. "Now that we're into Day 4, I think that's on the line".

While the plan still needs to be sent through committee before getting to a vote, Ducey spokesperson said House and Senate members were briefed on the details over the weekend, although specifics still had not been released as of press time. They had sought an immediate 20 percent pay raise, competitive pay for support professionals, guaranteed annual raises, funding returned to 2008 levels and no new tax cuts until Arizona reaches the national per-pupil funding average.

The work in that direction, however, left teachers unimpressed - and unwilling to go back to work just yet.
