CSK wilts under Gill and Karthik's assault

Kolkata Knight Riders reduced the gap between them and Chennai Super Kings to two points with victory, but are still third in the standings.

Chasing 178 for victory, Gill, an U-19 World Cup victor, joined hands with Karthik for an unbroken 83-run fifth wicket partnership off 36 deliveries that took the game away from MS Dhoni's team despite their making early inroads. Delhi Daredevils played the match at the home venue of CSK.

Gill enthralled the packed house, equally divided in purple and yellow patches, with his poise and control as he played a crucial knock of 36-ball 57 and contributed in a match-winning unbroken partnership of 83 runs off 36 deliveries with captain Dinesh Karthik, who raced to 45 off 18 balls.

Ordinary fielding from the likes of Jadeja (4-39-1) and Harbhajan (3-20-1) proved costly as Shubman Gill (57*) and Dinesh Karthik (45*) raced to the total with more than 2 overs to spare. Gill didn't slog it out but only played authentic cricketing shots in racing to his first 50 in his fledgling IPL career. Despite its winning streak, CSK hasn't been using its top five batsmen in the best possible manner, critics feel.

Faf Du Plessis combined with Shane Watson to give Chennai Super Kings a rollicking start.

China Gifts Karl Marx Statue to German Thinker's Town of Birth
But the very big statue gifted by Beijing has sparked accusations of a city seeking to capitalise on Chinese tourists or investments.

What though a score near 200 does is put pressure on the opposition to start well and maintain a scoring rate near 10 runs an over.

After the completion of 11 overs during CSK's innings, an ardent fan of the skipper invaded the dugout despite heavy security to touch the feet of Dhoni.

CSK's run glut continued even after du Plessis was done in by a wrong 'un from Piyush Chawla.

It will be interesting to see whether Chennai Super Kings will be able to beat the Royal Challengers Bangalore the second time this season or not.

Dhoni was on 29 when his catch was dropped. CSK batsmen's inability to handle spin in the middle-overs and their shoddy selection of its batting order cost them yesterday's match. Sunil Naraine, who picked up two wickets and scored a brisk 32, was the "man of the match".
